This picture was taken at CBF 2 years ago in Charlotte. Gay is in a wheelchair because this was before we got her arthritis under control. So, now you know a couple of CBF celebrities! We both thoroughly enjoyed his presentation. The heart of his message what that we need to end the "values in politics" monologue that the religious right has kept a tight grip on for the past several years, and replace it with a values dialogue that includes Christians from both sides of the aisle.
Here, to the best of my memory, are some the highlights of what he said:
Since when is Jesus pro-rich, pro-war, and pro-America?
I don't think Jesus' top priorities would be a capital gains tax cut and the occupation of Iraq.
Budgets are moral documents. Where we spend our money is a reflection of our values.
Taking care of God's creation, the environment, is a moral value.
The Bible discusses caring for the poor hundreds of more times than abortion or homosexuality. And yet caring for the poor is absent from the religious rights values monologue.
If you every have an opportunity to hear Jim Wallis speak, Go! You will be enriched by the experience.

We have contacted a realtor in Winston-Salem, and will be visiting up there Memorial Day weekend to look at housing options. We are hoping to buy a condo in Winston-Salem and move up there at the end of July, first of August. I will feel much more at ease when we have all our housing options lined up.
Gay has sent resumes to several churches and associations, and we hope she will have some job offers soon. We can certainly use your prayers on this front as well.
Now that my life has returned to something closer to normal, I will start blogging some more. I have lots of things I want to say about some of the things that are going on out there, particularly with church-state issues.
Again, Gay and I both appreciate your prayers as we go through this period in our lives.
